With a combination of ethos, pathos, and logos, they make any viewer want to buy there healthy sports drink.  Vitamin water has recently used one of the world top athletes, Kobe Bryant in order to help prove that their product really works.
Vitamin Water establishes ethos by reminding the viewer of their reputation.  Vitamin Water is known for being the healthiest sports drink on the market.  This is proved by the action shot of Kobe Bryant in the middle of the advertisement. Kobe’s muscular physique and physical activity proves to the viewer that Vitamin Water is healthy enough to keep such an athlete in great physical shape. Vitamin Water makes sure that viewers know both their logo and slogans used in this powerful advertisement.  The logo is located near the bottom so that it is the last thing the viewer reads as they move on to other products.  The slogans are also well placed, being that the most convincing is at the top. Pathos is used with the advertisement’s colors and images.  Vitamin Water has many different flavors, yet they chose their red flavored drink in order for the advertisement to stand out.  Staying with the red theme, the bottom of the advertisement is also red in order to match the large picture of the drink in the middle.

I would consider this a bad advertisement because it  does not attract the eye, and doesn’t not make it easy for the reader to understand what the ad is trying to sell. There are also too many works which would make a reader to lazy to read the advertisement and see what it is for if it doesn’t attract them or interest them.

The first ad about the cigarettes is absolutely horrible. We know that smoking is bad for you but this add is trying to tell the audience that Doctors think it is okay to smoke. Also that the Doctors prefer that type of cigarettes. It is appealing to peoples logos because they need to use their logic in order to sort things out.

The second ad is with Katy Perry and is showing that you should use this particular brand of face wash because it will give you flawless looking skin like her. It is appealing to both pathos and ethos because it is playing on emotions as well as using a celebrity to promote the product.

The first ad is for revlon nail polish. It is a good ad because it contains ethos, logos and pathos. The bright varied colors represent a good mood. It is appealing to the viewer because it is creative becasue and colorful; it stands out a lot and it got my attention right away when I first saw it. It is also appealing becasue its purpose is to tell how quickly it dries and it shows painted nails to represent that. It says cool color in 60 seconds and the 60 is in really big font to grab the viewer’s attention right away.

The second advertisement is for Coca Cola. I do not think it is a good ad because I could not see the Coke right away and I was not sure what it was advertising. I also do not understand what the purpose of it it. I do not see what it has to do with Coke.

This is the bad ad. I think it is a bad advertisement for many reasons. This advertisement is for a European magazine, however I would not be tempted buy the magazine because of this advertisement.

This ad does not address  ethos or logos. Ethos is the character of the person in the advertisement. This woman is not a public figure that people would aspire to or would be willing to buy a product from. Logos is how an ad logically appeals to people. There is nothing in this ad that logically makes sense. Why would someone think they should buy a magazine, because the advertisement for it shows people having sex with animals.

This ad does include pathos. Pathos is when an advertisement emotionally appeals to the reader. This ad definitely would create an emotional reaction to any viewer, because of it’s shocking subject matter. However, I do not think that the angry or confused emotions that this advertisement might create would make a person more inclined to buy their product.

This is the good ad.  This ad is promoting  the United Colors of Benetton which is a clothing company. Through this advertisement the company is hoping to make the viewer see them as a caring company.

This idea is seen through the company’s use of logos and pathos. Logos is appealing to a viewer through logic. This ad accomplishes this because it is showing the viewer that their company sees all people as equal. One of the reasons why I found this article to be so effective is because their logos also ties into their pathos. By telling people that their company sees all people as equal, they are appealing to people’s emotions. After seeing this ad most people would feel as if the company cares about individuals and important social issues like equality. Although the company is not explicitly selling their product through this ad, they are implicitly selling it by playing on people’s emotions.

The one aspect that this ad is missing is ethos, which is the character of your speaker.  The company could have improved this ad by the use of ethos. For instance they could include a black, white, and asain public figure in the advertisement.

Good ad:

I thought this was a good ad because it was creative and gets the message across in a very simple way. This would obviously be run around Christmas time when people are in the Christmas spirit and thinking of Christmas trees. Sometimes a simple ad is a good ad.

Bad ad:

This is a bad ad because there really is no point and it could be offensive to some people. The ‘Just do it’ ads from Nike are usually really good and this one is pretty disappointing. I don’t know if they were trying to be funny or not, but for me this ad really didn’t work.

This sketcher advertisement appeals to all three pathos, logos, and ethos. The ethos is that it has a celebrity artist Brandy in the ad. It appeals to the pathos which it appeals to the family by showing Brandy with her family and has “Nothing Compares to Family” which also appeals to the logos as well.

I feel that this is a poor advertisement for Nike. I feel like I do not know what type of message they are trying to send through this advertisement. I think that it was a poor marketing choice and advertising decision because there is no ethos or pathos within in. I would say the logo of just do it is part of logos, but I just feel that it poor represented.

Mezzancello- Ads

Good Ad:
The first two pictures are an ad that appeal to its audience using both ethos and pathos. It uses ethos by using two prominent figures to endorse the product. In this case two celebrities Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel designer) and Gwenyth Paltrow teamed up to promote a t shirt designed by Karl who teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for Key to the Cure which also appeals to the audience through pathos also which is to promote womens cancer research.

Bad Ad:
The third picture is a Diesel ad. I just do not understand it or what it is advertising. It is supposed to promote the Diesel brand but I dont understand who would find acting stupid appealing. The attempt of the ad was to appeal to its audience through logos but the text is insluting and does not make sense in trying to promote the brand. Ethos is not present in this ad because there is no celebrity prominent figure, nor is pathos because the text in this ad does not reach an audience through emotion.
